Personal:

Son of Andrew and Deborah Jackson, Desmond  was an active child after having his leg amputated above the knee when he was less than a year old due to a birth defect. With his mother's encouragement, he became involved in soccer, football and horseback riding before turning to track and field in high school. He trains with able-bodied runners at North Carolina State with able-bodied runners and was a 2014 and 2015 U.S. Paralympics Track and Field High School All-American. Fluent in Spanish, he enjoys plying X-Box, reading and riding his bike in his free time. He also serves as an usher at his church and previously played trumpet in a jazz band.
