A Bed Fit for a King
Imagine the delight and anticipation of bringing a newborn baby into the world. What a wonderful time in one's life. However, during this excitement complications can arise. Miracle baby, Xavier King, was born with Down Syndrome, Atrial Septal Defect (heart complications), a left temporal lobe cyst, developmental delays, epilepsy, and is fitted with a feeding tube. Through all of these obstacles, three-year-old Xavier is a happy, well-adjusting little boy.
Constant visits to the doctor and various medical needs put a strain on the King's financial situation. A loving friend of the King's, Jennifer Fox, wanted to lend a hand to such a supportive, caring, and deserving family. Jennifer asked The Granted Wish Foundation to grant Xavier with a brand new bed of his own. Something Xavier never had. After hearing about the King's heart-warming story, we were delighted to help with such a wish. We were pleased to provide Xavier with a beautiful bed fit for a King.
"The joy and excitement of expecting our fifth child was momentarily interrupted a few times during pregnancy with a couple scares and when we found out he would have Down Syndrome. After researching this we were back to excitement and anticipation of his birth which came in December 2006. A little early, our bundle of love and joy arrived as cute as could be! After a couple of days, he was put in NICU for 10 days for failure to thrive.
After we got home we embarked on the journey that has gotten us to where we are today. Today Xavier is a happy, well-adjusting three-year-old that has 10 doctors and three therapists that care for and assist us on a pretty regular basis. He was diagnosed with epilepsy having 200 seizures a day for a year shortly after he turned one. He has an ASD (heart problem), a left temporal lobe cyst, developmental delays, feeding tube, etc. With numerous medical issues, the bills were monumental even with great insurance along with all the constant trips to the doctors for this and that, figuring out what to do next.
At the same time he was playing, having fun, and living life with our family of seven, extended family, and friends, who were undoubtedly the best support and encouragement you could ask for to help us get through it all with a happy heart!! They are the best!!! One friend in particular, Jen (and her husband Don), had taken it upon themselves to nominate us at her work for a Granted Wish. To our surprise we had the honor of being picked and our wish of Xavier having a bed of his own that converted to a twin bed later on was granted. We were borrowing a crib from a friend until we could afford one ourselves. We were elated as with a large family with one income, surmounting medical bills, economic state of our country, no more overtime, college expenses, car problems, etc. We are always struggling to just make ends meet with what we have. So we as a family collectively thank The Granted Wish Foundation for making our wish of a Bed Fit for a King come true!!!! And as you can tell from his pictures, Xavier is as happy as can be."
