The airport was deserted. Only military. Not there to help, but to protect the assets of nations who were sending massive aid shipments.
And in the crowd, a 17-year-old. Her hand mangled from the earthquake 6 days earlier. No medical aid in sight.
The doctors among us dropped their bags on the spot. "We start here. We start now," they said. And so began our journey into the carnage. Picking one face in the crowd amidst thousands.
We have to do more. Just have to.

We worked today with doctors around the US. Haitians tell us they need on the spot care. We can do this, we agreed. We just need to beg Americans to understand how great the need and how little time we have.
